College Eligibility Services

Gaining US college eligibility academically and athletically is complex. We offer academic eligibility services to the student-athlete and to US college coaches or admission personnel, to ensure each Australian student-athlete is eligible to study and compete in the US college system.

For Australian Student-Athletes and Families

We carefully assess your current situation. Then, we guide you through the academic and athletic standards you must meet before a US college will consider you eligible. Our comprehensive, one-on-one consultations include the following options.

— Introduction to US College Eligibility

As there are varying eligibility requirements for each level of US colleges and universities, we help you navigate the complexities by:

  • Discussing your current situation and the eligibility criteria for NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA and NJCAA colleges and universities
  • Advising you on individual VCE subjects and courses to take during secondary school
  • If needed, becoming the liaison between you and your specific college coach(es)
— SAT and ACT Tests

To gain academic eligibility for any US college or university, you must achieve a satisfactory score on either the SAT or ACT test.
We help you by:

  • Recommending which test to take
  • Registering you for your test
  • Equipping you with the information you need to successfully prepare for and take the SAT or ACT test
  • Offering individual or group tutoring and interpretation of test scores
— Transcripts and Eligibility

To further ensure you are academically eligible, we provide you with:

  • Advice and assistance with the NCAA Eligibility Center online registration
  • Evaluation of GPA and core courses according to NCAA or NAIA regulations
  • Preparation of official academic transcripts and our exclusive Spencer-Gardner NCAA Eligibility Chart©, which has been successfully used for previous student-athletes accepted into US colleges
— Admissions, Form I-20 and Student Visa

We make sure you have all the required school and government documents you need to be accepted into your US college or university, by:

  • Acting as the liaison between you and your college admissions department
  • Requesting, obtaining and helping you fill out Form I-20
  • Guiding you through the student visa application process

For U.S. College Coaches, Compliance and Admissions Personnel

The academic system in Australia is very different to the USA. For a start, the Australian academic year runs January–December. And, Australian students have typically never heard of NCAA and NAIA core courses - or GPA requirements - or SAT and ACT tests.

But you can rest assured.

For nearly a decade, Spencer-Gardner Education Consulting has successfully guided more than 60 student-athletes in their NCAA, NAIA and junior college eligibility. We have particular expertise with NCAA Guide to International Academic Standards for Athletics Eligibility.

“Maureen’s extensive knowledge and confident ability to organize college eligibility completely simplified the paperwork implications in applying to a US University … I have the opportunity to become a better basketballer, earn a degree and ultimately grow as a person. It takes courage to leave home, but it’s worth it as I stand to gain so much.”
- Sarah, currently studying and playing basketball in Oklahoma
